We are seeking a specialist to join a busy SAP Finance Systems Team, to be responsible for acting as an expert SAP Functional and Business Specialist. You will play a leading role in analysing, documenting, recommending and configuring solutions and development needs predominantly in your areas of functional expertise to address user and institutional issues, deliver new functionality (including functional specification and functional configuration) and support existing/new/changed processes. Showing ownership for the varied and evolving functional requirements is key in this role. The job will also have varied demands on your skill set from a Business-As-Usual and project perspective.
You will work within a friendly, experienced and skilled team of SAP professionals, who all relish a challenge and are determined to deliver the best possible SAP experience to the University’s user base. Reporting into the SAP Functional Lead, you are expected to work within an agile project delivery framework and regularly provide feedback on the progress of your tasks. You will be expected to take ownership of tasks from requirements gathering, through configuration, UAT and delivery of the solution to the production environment. You will be given the opportunity to learn and enhance your skills, but also share your findings with your peers.
Projects arising from business need may cross over a number of specialist areas of SAP, the post holder would lead on that interaction with other functional and technical experts as well as interactions with stakeholders, translating outcomes into language senior stakeholders can interpret and understand and working with them to ensure a holistic view and successful delivery of outcomes.
About You
We are looking for a person who enjoys working with the latest SAP and Finance software and gets the best out of it for the University. You will be proactive, flexible, customer focused and like to work closely with users to understand and resolve issues. You will enjoy maintaining a deep level of expertise in key areas but also be happy getting involved in other areas that are new to you. You enjoy the challenge of learning new processes, systems and capabilities and are happy to assist others in the team on a variety of activities. It is important you can share your knowledge and help develop less experienced members of the team and other system users. You will want to be part of a small but friendly team that work well together, in an agile, hybrid working scenario.
Experience and Requirements
- Educated to degree level or equivalent
- Very broad knowledge and experience of SAP or similar ERP system either as an expert user or in providing support to users.
- Extensive business experience in a large and diverse organisation.
- Extensive experience of SAP configuration, preferably gained during the initial implementation of a new system and at least one project cycle.
- In depth and up to date knowledge of relevant SAP modules and functional areas.
- Excellent communication skills, particularly for explaining IT concepts to non-IT staff in order to deal with staff at all levels of the University.
- Good understanding of business and systems analysis, and project management tools and methodologies.
- Ability to understand the needs of users in the Finance Office and departments and relate that to the capabilities of SAP and other financial systems in use.
- Knowledge and experience of financial processes in large organisations.
- Ability to analyse and solve problems.
- Ability to work to tight deadlines.
- Ideally be Certification for various SAP modules.
- Project management qualifications, such as PRINCE2.
