WeDo is working with an end user embarking on a major cloud-native transformation and is now looking for a Database Architect with deep AWS Aurora (MySQL-compatible) experience to join their team on a contract basis.
Role Overview
As a Database Architect, you’ll take the lead in designing and documenting scalable, high-performance database solutions using AWS Aurora Serverless v2. You’ll collaborate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders to ensure robust, cost-effective architecture that supports long-term scalability and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect cloud-native database solutions using AWS Aurora Serverless v2
- Produce detailed technical documentation, architectural diagrams, and decision records
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to align infrastructure design with business needs
- Implement high availability strategies including blue-green deployments, read replicas, and RDS Proxy
- Define and maintain robust disaster recovery and backup solutions
- Use Terraform to manage infrastructure across Dev, Test, and Production environments
- Monitor and secure environments using CloudWatch, IAM, and industry best practices
- Optimize performance through query tuning, replication strategies, and capacity planning
Key Skills & Experience
- Strong hands-on experience with AWS Aurora, especially Serverless v2
- Proficient in Terraform and managing RDS-related infrastructure
- Confident designing for scalability, availability, and cost efficiency
- Experience with large datasets, schema design, and federated architectures
- Clear communicator, able to produce clean, maintainable documentation
- Familiarity with compliance frameworks like ISO 27001, SOC 2, etc.
