Position: Commercial Electrical Supervisor Employment Type: Permanent Salary: Negotiable Sector: Commercial / Electrical / Building Services Job Overview An experienced and motivated Commercial Electrical Supervisor is required for a permanent position, responsible for supervising electrical installations and maintenance across commercial projects. The successful candidate will have strong technical knowledge, proven supervisory experience, and the ability to manage electrical teams safely and efficiently while ensuring projects are delivered to a high standard, on time, and within budget. Key Responsibilities The role involves supervising and coordinating electrical engineers, electricians and subcontractors across commercial projects. Responsibilities include overseeing day-to-day electrical installation, testing, commissioning and maintenance activities, ensuring all electrical works are completed to a high standard and in accordance with current regulations, specifications and project requirements. The successful candidate will be responsible for reading and interpreting electrical drawings, schematics, specifications and technical documentation, as well as planning and allocating daily workloads, labour and resources to ensure efficient project delivery. The position will involve monitoring project progress and reporting any issues, delays or requirements to the Project Manager or Contracts Manager. Regular quality inspections will be carried out to ensure works meet the required standards, with all electrical installations completed in compliance with BS 7671 (18th Edition) and relevant health and safety legislation. The Electrical Supervisor will conduct toolbox talks, site inductions and daily briefings where required, promote a strong safety culture and ensure RAMS and permit-to-work procedures are followed correctly. The role will also require regular liaison with site management, project managers, clients, consultants and other trades. The successful candidate will coordinate electrical works with mechanical, HVAC, fire alarm, BMS and other building services. Additional responsibilities will include assisting with material procurement and stock control, identifying additional material requirements, monitoring subcontractor performance and ensuring works are completed in accordance with project programme requirements. The Electrical Supervisor will assist with testing, inspection, commissioning and handover of completed installations, maintain accurate site records, progress reports, timesheets and project documentation, and identify and resolve technical issues on site by providing practical and effective solutions. The role will also provide support to the Project Manager or Contracts Manager with project planning and delivery, ensuring all works are completed safely, efficiently and to the required commercial and quality standards. Required Experience & Qualifications The successful candidate will have proven experience working as an Electrical Supervisor or Electrical Site Supervisor within the commercial sector, with a strong background in commercial electrical installation and building services. Applicants should be qualified electricians with relevant electrical qualifications and hold 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671). An Inspection & Testing qualification, SSSTS or SMSTS, and NVQ Level 3 Electrical Installation or equivalent would be desirable. An ECS or JIB card would also be advantageous. Candidates should have a strong understanding of commercial electrical systems and installations, together with proven experience supervising electrical teams and subcontractors. The ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and specifications is essential, along with a good understanding of health and safety requirements and site procedures. Excellent communication, organisational and leadership skills are required, together with the ability to work independently, make confident decisions on site and maintain a strong commitment to quality and safe working practices. Desirable Commercial Experience Experience across commercial offices, retail units, hotels, schools and educational facilities, hospitals and healthcare environments, warehouses and industrial units, data centres, refurbishment projects and new-build commercial projects would be advantageous. Experience with lighting and emergency lighting, power distribution, containment systems, fire alarm systems, access control and security systems, small power, BMS and controls, LV distribution, testing and commissioning would also be beneficial. Personal Attributes The successful candidate will be a confident and proactive electrical supervisor with the ability to effectively lead, motivate and manage site teams. They will be professional when dealing with clients, contractors, colleagues and other site personnel. Strong organisational and time-management skills are essential, together with a safety-conscious and quality-driven approach. The ability to work under pressure, meet project deadlines and resolve problems efficiently is required. The successful candidate should also be commercially aware, practical in their approach to problem solving and willing to take responsibility for the successful delivery of electrical works.
