Wedlake Bell are recruiting a Paralegal to join our highly-regarded Projects & Infrastructure (P&I) team. This is a 12-month fixed-term contract, with in-office expectations of 5 days per week.

Part of our wider Business Services Group, our P&I team provides legal advice to owners and operators of infrastructure assets on the use and development of those assets (particularly real estate) - including consenting, funding, development, commissioning operation, and in particular has a specialist, in-depth focus on the ports sector. They are a close-knit team of five – one consultant, one partner, a solicitor, a paralegal, and a paralegal secretary.

As a Paralegal in the P&I team, you will provide junior legal support to the team on a variety of matters, including transactional real estate and asset management, construction, planning, environmental, and more in the context of ports and energy infrastructure. Tasks range from legal research, drafting legal documents and correspondence, and supporting the matter life-cycle.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing general paralegal support on a variety of projects and infrastructure matters, including:
  • Supporting on a variety of commercial landlord and tenant queries and property management issues;
  • Conducting Land Registry searches, applications, and investigations;
  • Drafting various property documents and forms;
  • Drafting client correspondence via letter and email, as well as with other parties and law firms;
  • Maintaining up-to-date schedules for internal and client purposes;
  • Undertaking legal research;
  • Other administrative tasks including diarising and monitoring key dates, printing, scanning, producing engrossments, dealing with deeds, etc.;
  • Other ad-hoc responsibilities as required.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Ideally, but not essential, to have prior experience dealing with landlord and tenant issues in a law firm or similar environment;
  • Ideally, good knowledge of land law in the context of landlord and tenant issues;
  • A university degree achieving at least a 2:1 – ideally a law degree, or post-graduate qualification in a related field;
  • Completion of the LPC, or SQE preparatory courses / successful completion of SQE exams, is advantageous but not essential;
  • Excellent communication skills (in writing, by telephone and in person) – must be able to interact and communicate effectively across all levels of seniority and on both an internal and external basis;
  • Able to work well under pressure and in keeping with deadlines;
  • Proactive and positive mindset, with the flexibility to support the team and wider firm by taking on additional responsibilities as needed;
  • Excellent attention to detail;
  • Strong IT capabilities, including a good understanding of modern office software (Office 365 suite).
