About Us
Wedgewood Groundworks is a trusted family groundworks and civil engineering business with a solid reputation for quality, reliability, and safety. We operate a busy fleet of light commercial vehicles supporting sites and projects across the south of England. To help keep our operations running efficiently, we’re looking for an experienced Vehicle Mechanic to join our in-house maintenance team.
Role Overview
This role involves maintaining, servicing, and repairing our fleet of light commercial vehicles (LCVs) — including vans, pickups, and small plant transporters. The ideal candidate will have strong diagnostic skills, a proactive attitude, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out routine servicing, maintenance, and repairs on LCVs (mainly Ford, Vauxhall, and similar models).
- Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults using diagnostic tools.
- Prepare vehicles for MOT testing and arrange tests where required.
- Carry out inspections and ensure all vehicles meet safety and compliance standards.
- Maintain accurate service and repair records.
- Support the team with on-site vehicle checks and occasional breakdown assistance.
- Keep the workshop organised and stocked with essential parts and tools.
- Assist with some plant and machinery servicing and maintenance.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Vehicle Mechanic or LCV Technician.
- Relevant qualifications (e.g., NVQ Level 3 in Light Vehicle Maintenance or equivalent).
- Good working knowledge of LCV systems (diesel engines, braking, electrical, suspension).
- Strong fault-finding and diagnostic abilities.
- Full UK driving licence (Class 2 HGV licence desirable but not essential).
- Ability to work independently with a high standard of workmanship.
