This role is based at Scottish Galvanizers Ltd in Glasgow, G41. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Health and Safety Co-ordinator to join our busy team at Scottish Galvanizers Ltd. We are part of Wedge Group Galvanizing, a successful family-owned business offering secure employment to its employees for over 150 years. We have 14 sites nationwide and apply corrosion protection to all the steel you regularly see around you such as street furniture, lampposts, bridge beams and even football stadiums through our galvanizing process.

What’s the role?

As the site Health & Safety Coordinator you will help to deliver our Company’s strategic priority of “Safety First” through owning and driving health and safety activities on site. You will be based in a factory environment and main responsibilities include:

  • Putting Safety First – role-modelling expected health & safety behaviours and championing health and safety on site.
  • Complete safety monitoring exercises on site and ensure checks are carried out by other personnel.
  • Promote hazard and near miss reporting on site and lead feedback and improvement activities.
  • Produce and review risk assessments and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Deliver health & safety briefings, toolbox talks and training.
  • Investigate accidents and near misses, establishing root causes and agreeing corrective actions.

Who would suit this role?

This role would suit someone who is driven, self-motivated and has a ‘can-do’ attitude. You need to have a good level of IT literacy, be hands on and demonstrate ownership and driving of health and safety activities. A recognised Health and Safety qualification, such as the NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety would be advantageous but not essential – training can be provided to the right candidate. Any previous galvanizing or steel experience would be beneficial.

  • A permanent 40-hour contract, with an annual salary of up to £35,000.00 depending on experience.

Hours?

Working Monday to Friday – working hours to be agreed with your line manager (usually worked in 8-hour slots at some point between 07:00 and 18:00, with occasional changes to see night shift).
