Responsibilities
- Manage and coordinate Group-wide transport planning, vehicle allocation and driver resources.
- Negotiating pricing, lead times, and supplier agreements
- Oversee fleet utilisation, deliveries, collections, intercompany movements and specialist transport.
- Manage transport drivers and monitor driver hours, mileage, utilisation and productivity.
- Ensure full compliance with UK transport legislation and Operator Licence requirements.
- Oversee vehicle roadworthiness, maintenance, MOTs, daily checks, defects, tachographs, drivers’ hours, Working Time, CPC, vehicle weights and load security.
- Maintain accurate compliance records and ensure readiness for DVSA inspections.
- Work closely with divisional managers, production and dispatch teams to anticipate and plan transport requirements.
- Manage approved external haulage providers, rates and performance.
- Monitor transport costs and identify opportunities to improve fleet efficiency and reduce subcontracting.
- Drive continuous improvement across transport processes, service levels and cost control.
Experience Required
- Significant experience in transport, logistics or fleet management.
- Experience managing drivers and transport operations.
- Strong knowledge of transport compliance and Operator Licence requirements.
- Excellent transport planning and organisational skills.
- Strong commercial and cost-control awareness.
- Good Excel and data analysis skills.
- Experience managing competing priorities across multiple sites.
- Strong communication, leadership and stakeholder management skills.
- A proactive approach with the confidence to challenge and improve existing processes.
- Transport Manager CPC / Certificate of Professional Competence is highly desirable.
