We are looking for a motivated Apprentice Floor layer to join our team and train in textile and resilient flooring installation. This apprenticeship will provide hands-on experience and expert training in laying a variety of flooring materials, including carpets, vinyl, linoleum, and rubber flooring.

As a Floor layer Apprentice, you will learn the specialist skills involved in preparing, fitting, and finishing a wide range of flooring materials including:

  • Textile flooring: such as carpets, carpet tiles, and underlay
  • Resilient flooring: including vinyl sheets, tiles, and slip-resistant coverings

You’ll work alongside experienced floor layers learning how to prepare surfaces, measure and cut materials, and install high-quality flooring in commercial, industrial, and residential settings across the UK, this will involve staying away from home.

No experience is needed – full training will be provided through your apprenticeship provider and day-to-day support from the team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with preparing subfloors and damp-proofing, including cleaning, levelling, and selecting and applying adhesives.
  • Learn techniques to accurately measure, cut, and fit flooring materials such as carpets, vinyl, and rubber.
  • Install underlays, trims, and finishes to achieve a high-quality result.
  • Learn how to accurately seam, stretch and edge finishing.
  • Work safely with hand/power tools and cutting equipment.
  • Follow site safety regulations and maintain a clean workspace.
  • Develop knowledge of different flooring materials and their applications.
  • Work as part of a team and communicate effectively with clients and colleagues.
  • Attend college/training sessions as required to complete your apprenticeship standard.

  • Basic mathematical skills for measuring and cutting materials.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently and as part of a team.
  • Physical fitness and ability to carry materials and work on your feet.
  • A positive attitude and commitment to completing the apprenticeship.
  • Outstanding communication skills both with colleagues and customers.
  • Excellent attendance and timekeeping.
  • A driving license (or willingness to learn) is beneficial but not essential.
  • Staying away from home is sometimes required.

  • You will learn the underpinning knowledge that runs alongside your practical elements of the training. WEBS Training aim to build on the skills you already have so you reach your full potential both personally and professionally.
  • Training will be provided in all areas of floor laying to ensure you can create practical and quality installations using both traditional and modern techniques and materials to produce aesthetically pleasing and fit for purpose installations.
  • If you have already achieved GCSE maths and English at Grade 4/C or above or have equivalent qualification you will be exempt from undertaking Functional Skills, however English and maths support will be provided for all apprentices throughout the length of their programme.

Qualifications:

  • GCSE or equivalent in English (Grade C/4) - desirable
  • GCSE or equivalent in Maths (Grade C/4) - desirable
