The Role

  • Interpreting job specifications, technical drawings, and work instructions for furniture and components.
  • Planning tasks and selecting the appropriate materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Preparing materials through measuring, marking, cutting, shaping, and sanding.
  • Operating hand tools, power tools, and woodworking machinery, including CNC equipment.
  • Assembling components using joints, fixings, and adhesives.
  • Carrying out finishing processes such as sanding and heat application.
  • Maintaining high quality standards throughout production.
  • Safely packing and storing completed items.
  • Following all health, safety, and environmental procedures while keeping the workspace clean and well organised.

Who We’re Looking For

  • A genuine interest in furniture making, manufacturing, and hands‑on practical work.
  • Strong manual dexterity and a responsible attitude towards health and safety.
  • A keen eye for detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Contributes effectively within a team.
  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills (GCSEs or equivalent), or a willingness to work towards them.

What we offer

  • Wages above apprentice rate of pay, paying £9.00 per hour.
  • Paid travel expenses to WEBS Training to undertake apprenticeship training.
  • Flexible working hours, Monday to Friday, 8am – 4pm or 9am – 5pm.

About The Apprenticeship

This is a Level 2 Furniture Making Operative Apprenticeship, designed to develop the skills, knowledge, and behaviours required to manufacture and assemble furniture and components to a high standard. Training will be delivered by Webs Training, a specialist provider for the furniture and manufacturing industries. It will primarily take place at the employer’s site in Matlock (DE4 4BG), with occasional travel required to WEBS Training’s centre in Beeston, Nottingham.
