The U.S. Embassy in London seeks an exceptional Gardener to maintain and enhance the prestigious landscapes of our diplomatic properties, including the iconic Ambassador’s residence at Winfield House and the Deputy Chief of Mission’s residence at Wychwood House. This is a unique opportunity to showcase your horticultural expertise on some of London’s most distinguished properties. You’ll be responsible for delivering exceptional standards of landscape maintenance that reflect the prestige and importance of U.S. diplomatic facilities in the United Kingdom. Your work will directly contribute to creating beautiful, welcoming environments for diplomatic events, official functions, and daily operations—making a visible impact on U.S. representation abroad.
Core Horticultural Responsibilities:
- Maintain pristine turf across multiple properties
- Expertly prune trees and shrubbery to the highest standards
- Manage irrigation systems to ensure optimal plant health
- Maintain aquatic environments, including ponds and water features
- Control pests and diseases using integrated management approaches
- Design, install, and maintain internal landscapes
- Propagate plants and execute year-round planting schemes
- Manage green waste sustainably and efficiently
Operational & Coordination Duties:
- Monitor and maintain stock levels of chemicals, fertilizers, tools, equipment, compost, mulch, and PPE
- Complete detailed logs for chemical applications, machine maintenance, and safety incidents
- Ensure adequate fuel supplies (petrol/diesel/2-stroke oil) are maintained
- Coordinate with horticultural suppliers for deliveries of materials and supplies
- Respond to work orders for horticultural services across government buildings
- Optimize workflow by coordinating transport and machinery use within the team
- Liaise with House Managers to schedule work at appropriate times
- Assist with cleaning parking areas and paved surfaces
- Support seasonal event installations for Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter, and Independence Day celebrations

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Applicants must address each required qualification listed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each item. Failure to do so may result in a determination that the applicant is not qualified.
EDUCATION: Formal training to National Diploma Level 3 in Horticulture or a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 3 in Horticulture, or an equivalent Horticulture qualification is mandatory.
EXPERIENCE: A minimum of three years’ horticulture experience within a large public/private park or estate is required.
SKILLS & ABILITIES: A current, valid full (manual) UK/EU/EAA driver’s license is mandatory.
LANGUAGE: English - Good working knowledge; speaking, reading & writing (this may be tested).
