The Finance department provides the complete finance function which includes payroll to the whole organisation overseeing all the 165 services across England, addressing all issues and processing payments to meet the demands of staff and external agencies.
Reporting to the Senior Finance Officer, you will be responsible for the efficient running of the income and expenditure recording functions including but not limited to purchase ledger, staff expenses, ensuring accurate and timely information is processed and made available to users.
Main Responsibilities
- To code income received from the bank statement and allocate accordingly.
- To raise monthly sales invoices and reconcile sales ledger with monthly analysis of aged debtors.
- To be responsible for the accuracy of postings to the nominal ledger arising from the sales ledger, purchase ledger and staff expenses within given deadlines.
- To maintain debtors and creditors records, deal with queries and to undertake the reconciliation of debtors and creditors nominal ledger accounts.
- To prepare BACS schedules for signature by the Directors and ensure remittance advices are e‑mailed to all suppliers and employees.
- To ensure procedures are up to date and reviewed regularly.
- To organise workload to enable the Finance Team to meet monthly reporting deadlines.
- To maintain good communication between project managers and the management accounts team.
- To ensure that queries are prioritised and responded to within a reasonable timescale.
- Carry out ad‑hoc projects and analysis as required.
- To maintain filing and other information storage systems to ensure that up to date information is readily available when required on management accounts.
- To adhere to other Family Action’s policies and procedures.
- To take personal responsibility within the scope of the job for presenting a positive corporate image of Family Action.
- To ensure you have an understanding (appropriate to your role) of, and comply with Family Action’s procedures for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and vulnerable adults.
- To ensure the implementation of Family Action’s Equality & Diversity Policy and Ethical Policy in every aspect of your work and positively promote the principles of these policies amongst colleagues, service users and other members of the community.
- To comply with Family Action’s Health and Safety Policy, Data Protection Policy and to protect your own and others’ health, safety and welfare.
- To work flexibly as may be required by the needs of the service and carry out any other reasonable duties as required.
- Assisting with the preparation of quarterly and year‑to‑date returns and monitoring forms to funders.
Main Requirements
- A recognised accounting qualification, NVQ 4 or equivalent degree.
- Relevant experience in an accounts/finance team.
- The ability to input information quickly and accurately, with attention to detail.
- Computer literacy including competency in the Microsoft Office suite of products.
- Demonstrated experience of working with computerised accounting systems.
- Experience of using Salesforce or another CRM solution.
- A good understanding of accounting concepts including their application.
- Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with colleagues across Family Action.
- Ability to prioritise work and meet tight reporting deadlines.
- Experience of generating management information reports.
- Ability to use initiative and to suggest new ideas for service improvement.
