Role Overview
Medscape Medical Affairs is looking for a detail-oriented
Scientific Editor to support the review and quality control of scientific content.
This role is well suited for someone early in their medical communications career who is eager to build strong editorial and scientific skills while working on a variety of medical education projects.
The Scientific Editor will assist with scientific editing, proofreading, formatting, and quality checks across multiple deliverables.
They will work closely with medical, editorial, and project teams to help ensure content is accurate, clear, and aligned with project requirements and timelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Quality Control & Scientific Review
- Review scientific materials such as agendas, outlines, slide decks, transcripts, web content, and review materials.
- Check for scientific accuracy, consistency, and appropriate tone and style.
- Ensure comments from clients and faculty are addressed correctly.
- Support Medical, Legal, and Regulatory (MLR) submission processes.
- Fact Checking & References
- Fact-check content using primary literature and reliable scientific sources.
- Review and format references and citations.
- Help prepare annotated files and reference documents for internal use and submissions.
- Editorial & Operational Support
- Assist with tracking edits and comments across multiple review rounds.
- Complete intake forms, templates, and project documentation accurately.
- Support consistent editorial processes across projects.
- Collaboration
- Work closely with Medical Science Directors, medical writers, copy editors, creative teams, and project managers.
- Participate in team meetings and review discussions.
- Communicate clearly when questions or issues arise with content.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor's degree (or higher) in a life sciences or healthcare-related field.
- Some experience or interest in medical communications or scientific editing preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and interest in scientific accuracy.
- Basic ability to read and understand clinical or scientific data.
- Good organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Familiarity with literature searches and reference formatting.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and comfort working in shared, cloud-based systems.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
