At Webflow, we’re building the world’s leading AI-native Digital Experience Platform, and we’re doing it as a remote-first company built on trust, transparency, and a whole lot of creativity. This work takes grit, because we move fast, without ever sacrificing craft or quality. Our mission is to bring development superpowers to everyone. From entrepreneurs launching their first idea to global enterprises scaling their digital presence, we empower teams to design, launch, and optimize for the web without barriers. We believe the future of the web, and work, is more open, more creative, and more equitable. And we’re here to build it together.

Webflow is seeking a Senior Staff Engineer to join our team and build the next generation of agentic AI products. We've already shipped AI-powered experiences across our platform - from SiteBuilder to MCP, to many more. As a Senior Staff Engineer, you’ll …

  • Partner with engineering leadership, EMs, and Product Managers to define and deliver AI products across a broad set of user scenarios.
  • Architect scalable, high-performance systems that support a growing number of AI-powered products.
  • Drive technical strategy and make architectural decisions that compound - enabling the team to ship more AI experiences faster.
  • Own the engineering quality, reliability, and performance of AI products as complexity and scale increase.
  • Own architectural direction across teams.
  • Define long-term backend and infrastructure architecture for major product initiatives. Ensure systems are designed for durability, scalability, observability, and cost efficiency. Identify architectural risks early and drive alignment on sustainable solutions.
  • Partner with engineering leaders to evolve experimentation-heavy systems into platform-grade services.
  • Build and guide critical systems.
  • Architect and contribute to large-scale, backend-heavy product systems end-to-end.
  • Lead API and service design strategy across domains.
  • Improve system performance (latency, throughput, load handling) and guide tooling decisions.
  • Raise the bar in system design reviews across multiple teams.
  • Drive adoption of infrastructure-as-code, automation, and cloud best practices.
  • Improve incident response maturity and operational excellence.
  • Mentor senior engineers and grow architectural capability across the org.
  • Enable strategic execution.
  • Balance reliability, scalability, and cost while modernizing and refactoring legacy systems.
  • Provide clear architectural rationale to internal stakeholders and external partners.
  • Evaluate and introduce modern infrastructure and backend tooling where appropriate.
  • Help define platform capabilities that unlock future product velocity.

About you:

Requirements:

  • BS / BA college degree or relevant experience.

You’ll thrive in this role if you:

  • Have 10+ years of experience building and operating distributed systems in high-availability, customer-facing environments.
  • Have architected and scaled large backend systems across multiple teams or product areas.
  • Have hands-on experience designing and scaling multi-region environments in AWS or GCP.
  • Have strong experience with containerized systems (Kubernetes, EKS/GKE, ECS, etc.).
  • Are fluent in infrastructure-as-code tooling such as Terraform or Pulumi.
  • Have strong API and service architecture experience.
  • Have led performance optimization efforts at scale.
  • Are backend-leaning, but comfortable navigating full product stacks when necessary (TypeScript, Node, Go, etc.).
  • Have demonstrated the ability to influence technical direction beyond your immediate team.
  • Are known for thoughtful system design and pragmatic decision-making.
  • Mentor senior engineers and elevate architectural thinking across an organization.

Nice to have:

  • Experience evolving fast-moving growth systems into durable, scalable platforms.
  • Experience supporting AI-assisted product experiences (AI expertise not required).
  • Experience in platform-heavy domains such as payments, APIs, or core backend services.
  • Experience at high-growth or smaller companies where you owned architectural direction.
  • Stay curious and open to growth — actively building fluency in emerging technologies like AI to unlock creativity, accelerate progress, and amplify impact.
