Job Summary
We are seeking a reliable and motivated Semi-Skilled Electrician to support electrical and maintenance operations within a busy steel manufacturing, welding, and fabrication environment. The role involves electrical panel and control board wiring, machine maintenance, fault finding assistance, and general factory maintenance to ensure equipment operates safely and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out electrical wiring and assembly of control panels, distribution boards, and machine control circuits.
- Assist with installation, modification, and commissioning of electrical equipment and machinery.
- Perform routine preventative maintenance on production machinery and workshop equipment.
- Support troubleshooting and repair of electrical faults on manufacturing and fabrication machinery.
- Conduct general maintenance activities throughout the factory, including lighting, power supplies, and electrical services.
- Assist with maintenance and repair of welding equipment, fabrication machinery, overhead cranes, and associated workshop equipment.
- Read and interpret electrical drawings, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications.
- Ensure all electrical work complies with company procedures and relevant electrical regulations.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and report equipment issues to supervisors.
- Support mechanical maintenance activities when required.
- Keep work areas clean, organised, and safe.
- Participate in planned shutdowns and emergency breakdown repairs.
Skills and Experience
Essential:
- Previous experience in an industrial, manufacturing, fabrication, or steel production environment.
- Knowledge of electrical wiring, control panels, and industrial machinery.
- Ability to use electrical testing equipment and hand tools safely.
- Understanding of electrical safety procedures and safe isolation practices.
- Ability to read basic electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
- Good problem-solving and fault-finding skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
Desirable:
- Electrical qualification (NVQ, City & Guilds, apprenticeship, or equivalent).
- Experience working with welding equipment, fabrication machinery, or steel processing equipment.
- Knowledge of motors, contactors, relays, sensors, and variable speed drives (VSDs).
- Forklift, MEWP, or overhead crane certification.

Working Conditions
