Minimum qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 8 years of experience working with Linux and operating systems architecture, compute infrastructure, and supporting or maintaining enterprise cloud environments.
- 5 years of experience leading technical engineering teams in a live production or operational environment.
- Experience designing, deploying, and managing enterprise infrastructure solutions.
- Active, or the ability to obtain, a Developed Vetting (DV) UK security clearance.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience implementing high-security projects within fast-changing, customer-focused environments.
- Experience working with/within data center operations and in highly regulated infrastructure environments.
- Strong knowledge of containerization and orchestration technologies, specifically Kubernetes, along with enterprise-grade operating systems (Linux/Unix environments).
- Familiarity with network engineering across Local Area Network (LAN) and Wide Area Network (WAN) environments.
- Proven track record of automating common operational tasks to improve system resilience and platform scalability.
- Active or previous UK Developed Vetting (DV) or Security Check (SC) Security Clearance.

The UK Sovereign Operations team in Google Public Sector delivers, operates and secures private cloud services.
We aim to provide the flexibility, reliability, and scalability of public cloud for customers with exceptionally high security requirements that can only be met in a private cloud environment.
We deliver and operate these private cloud deployments for the most critical customers, helping scale, secure and maintain the deployment whilst working closely with Google product teams to continually improve our technology.
As a Technical Operations Manager, you will act as one of the engineering leaders guiding a multidisciplinary team of infrastructure, systems, and network engineers.
In this role, you will balance tactical day-to-day operations with strategic infrastructure planning across delivery, engineering integration, and live systems support.
You will be directly responsible for the operational readiness and stability of our platforms, serving as a critical point of escalation during technical incidents while driving automation and hardening standards.
This role will require participation in a manager rotating on-call schedule.

Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor teams of infrastructure and systems development engineers to design and execute robust enterprise architectures.
- Manage the deployment, end-to-end configuration, and continuous maintenance of air-gapped cloud computing solutions.
- Act as a senior technical point of contact during critical operational incidents, troubleshooting complex issues across Linux/operating systems environments, hypervisors, and networking stacks.
- Coordinate directly with internal product, development, and external vendor engineering teams to escalation core software or hardware issues and advocate for the needs of the operator.
Act as a point of contact for customers to ensure smooth onboarding and integration of technical and non-technical requirements.
- Drive modern, automated approaches to platform operations, systems provisioning, and infrastructure monitoring to maximize availability and reduce operational toil.
