About the job:

As an Emerging Impacts Manager, you will deliver tangible, grounded, and forward-looking intelligence for teams across DeepMind; ultimately, you will advance our mission to develop Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) responsibly for the greater good of humanity. In this role, you will work with technical and operational teams at DeepMind to consider the potential downstream impacts of DeepMind’s research and its applications. You will ensure that our work is conducted in line with ethics and safety best practices, helping DeepMind to progress towards its mission. You will build on your technical knowledge of AI models across various domains to assess their safety performance and real-world impact, sharing analysis to advise various DeepMind stakeholders, including our responsibility and safety council.

  • Lead ethics and safety reviews of projects and engage early with model teams to assess downstream societal implications and navigate governance considerations.
  • Collaborate closely with DeepMind safety communities and broader teams to inform model policy, prepare for emerging AI capabilities, and refine assessment frameworks through monitoring real-world impact.
  • Design and run engagement models, such as workshops and external expert consultations, to address ethics and safety issues and identify new research areas.
  • Develop and document best practices for DeepMind projects by working with internal experts and external organizations.
  • Support the responsibility and safety council by frequently presenting project assessments and communicating with executive stakeholders.
