We partner closely with Commodity Sales and Trading to engineer bespoke solutions for a diverse global client base across the energy, metals & bulks, agricultural and other niche product sectors. As a Commodity Structurer, you are an essential architect of the transaction lifecycle—from initial opportunity identification, structuring and quantitative pitching, pricing and risk analysis to final deal execution. Our work spans the full spectrum of physical and financial transactions, integrating pricing, legal structuring and optimization across funding, credit and capital deployments. We empower corporate clients to manage commercial commodity exposure through tailored solutions and provide institutional investors with sophisticated ideas for capital deployment and alpha generation across commodity markets.
As a member of the team, you will leverage deep commodities market expertise and quantitative background to solve complex financial problems. You will collaborate across Sales, Trading, Operations, and Engineering to develop innovative structures and solutions in corporate derivatives, structured financing, and physical flows across relevant markets. This role offers frequent client interaction, working on tangible day-to-day problems and providing you with a platform to deliver world-class solutions to global clients.
Responsibilities
- Work on end-to-end structuring for commodity derivative & financing products, ensuring rigorous quantitative analysis and alignment with legal and regulatory frameworks.
- Partner with Sales to deepen client relationships by providing technical expertise and tailored solutions during the pitching process and idea generation.
- Perform risk analysis and derivative pricing, incorporating XVA and regulatory capital impact (RWA) into commodity transactions.
- Contribute to a broad range of initiatives and lead business expansion across Goldman Sachs’ diversified commodities franchise.
- Work alongside senior traders and salespeople to originate trade ideas and optimize the desk’s risk-weighted returns.
- Design and build scalable platforms and tools to broaden the firm’s product offering and enhance our structuring capabilities.
Who We Look For
We seek self-driven, intellectually curious and commercially oriented individuals who thrive on solving "blank sheet of paper" problems. You should be a creative collaborator who can adapt to the fast-paced evolution of global markets and who enjoys the challenge of translating complex concepts into actionable client solutions.
Qualifications
- 3-5 years of experience in a structuring, structured origination, or quantitative research role within a leading financial institution.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical ideas to non-technical stakeholders.
- Best-in-class knowledge of derivative pricing theory, market mechanics, and structured finance.
- BS/MS (or higher) in a quantitative field such as Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, or Computer Science.
- Strong programming skills in at least one major language.
- Proficiency in additional languages is beneficial but not required.
