About the role

Our Assistant Producer: Communities is a proactive, practical role which works to share the We The Curious experience with the widest possible audience, both inside and outside our building. This role focuses on building and maintaining diverse community relationships across the city and working with local partners to better understand their needs. You will develop playful and accessible experiences for the public which cultivate curiosity.

Over time, you will help to identify opportunities to progress community relationships and support the development of collaborative projects, which offer deeper and more sustained engagement, creating space for underrepresented voices in STEM to be heard. This role is based in our Content Department, which is responsible for the creation, development and delivery of content for our public and education programmes, special projects, digital outputs and exhibitions. We work closely with our Commercial Operations, Audience and Inclusion teams.

Location: Hybrid – time split between our Bristol Harbourside office/venue and your preferred working location. This role has a strong focus on in-person delivery; offsite working alongside some weekend and out-of-hours event support will be required.

Salary: £28,521 per annum. Please note, until 31 March 2026, the salary is £30,059 per annum to reflect line management responsibility.

Contract: Permanent • Working hours: Full time, 37.5 hours a week (1.0 FTE).

What will you do in this role?

  • Role specific responsibilities – You will be the key contact within the Public Programming team for our Communities’ offer; you will help maintain positive relationships with existing community partners and identify new opportunities for collaboration across the city.
  • You will lead on in-person delivery of Out and About events, working with community partners to understand their needs before scheduling and facilitating activities offsite at a range of locations across the city.
  • You will support the continued development, management and evaluation of our Community Membership scheme, working with our Inclusion and Operational teams to ensure smooth running from reviewing applications to drafting regular e-newsletter content and hosting Community Member meet ups in venue.
  • You will support the development and delivery of special projects – utilising partnerships and creative collaborations to create memorable experiences for priority audiences (Young people, Disabled people, those experiencing socio-economic inequity, and those underrepresented in the science centre sector).
  • Your work should support the growth of strategic relationships within the Communities programme, creating opportunities for sustained engagement with our charity and identifying key opportunities for these partners over time.
  • You will work closely with the Producer: Public Programmes and our Inclusion Lead to grow and develop this area of the public programme over time, ensuring that our communities offer remains cohesive and sustainable, inputting on wider Inclusion and work strategies when required.
  • You will be highly motivated with a collaborative approach to working; confident at delivering events in partnership with diverse collaborators and an advocate for meaningful participation and equitable practices.
  • You will provide comprehensive administrative and logistical support to the programme, with excellent interpersonal and organisational skills and the ability to prioritise a varied workload and work calmly under pressure to deadline.
  • You will provide temporary line management to the Programme Assistant (fixed term funded position) until 31 March 2025, ensuring the role provides effective support for the programme while supporting their professional development and well-being.

What we\’re looking for

  • You will demonstrate a commitment to inclusive practice and community engagement, with an understanding of barriers to participation.
  • You will have an established track record of delivering community engagement programmes for diverse audiences, including underrepresented groups in the Science Centre sector.
  • You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be comfortable working with a range of people in various environments.
  • You will have experience or understanding of co-design/co-creation frameworks in public programmes.
  • You will have experience of project coordination and/or project management.
  • You will be highly collaborative, flexible, and able to work independently or under supervision.
  • You will be extremely organised with strong time management, prioritisation and problem-solving skills.
  • You will have a good understanding of safeguarding and best practice when working with children, young people and vulnerable adults.

Desirable

  • Experience of working with different community-based organisations and partners within Bristol or more broadly.
  • Experience of training and coordinating delivery staff, and/or supporting volunteers.
  • Experience of working in a similar role and/or for a large public venue.
