We Recruit Group has partnered with an independent CDM and Principal Designer consultancy that is based in Wiltshire. Our client has ambitious growth plans for 2026 and is looking to appoint an Architect or Design professional who would like to take a side step in their career and deliver the Principal Designer service for the business.

Our client has well established relationships across the property and construction sector, along with a growing portfolio of projects for the year ahead. Appointing a PD is their main priority in Q1 which will then set the business up to appoint a more junior individual come the Spring. They work with a range of clients across the sector, primarily within the residential, education, commercial, retail, leisure, industrial and healthcare sectors.

This role would suit an Architect or design professional that would like to change direction and deliver the Principal Designer service on a full time basis.

The Role:

  • Undertaking the Principal Designer role in accordance with CDM Regulations 2015.
  • Managing and coordinating design risk across multi-disciplinary design teams.
  • Reviewing designs to identify, eliminate and reduce foreseeable risks.
  • Advising clients on their duties under CDM 2015.
  • Preparing and reviewing pre-construction information and design risk registers.
  • Attending and leading design team and client meetings.
  • Liaising with contractors during the transition from design to construction.
  • Contributing to the preparation and handover of health and safety files.

About You:

  • You will be a design-led professional with strong technical knowledge and confidence working within a CDM and compliance framework.

Essential:

  • Architectural background (ARB registered Architect or equivalent experience).
  • Strong working knowledge of CDM 2015 and the Principal Designer role.
  • Experience managing design risk on UK construction projects.
  • Ability to challenge and influence design teams constructively.
  • Excellent communication and report-writing skills.
  • Full UK driving license.

Desirable:

  • Experience working within a consultancy or multi-disciplinary environment.
  • NEBOSH Construction Certificate or equivalent H&S qualification.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body (RIBA, IOSH, APS, etc.).
