WRG has recently partnered with an independent compliance consultancy that operates across the UK. The business primarily delivers Building Safety and Building Regulations Compliance services to clients across the property and construction industry. 2025 was a very successful year for the business, which has led to ambitious growth plans for this year. They would like to appoint a Building Regulations Principal Designer to the team, ideally someone from a building control or building inspector background due to the nature of the work that they undertake.
This is a crucial hire for the business; you will be an integral part of the design team, liaising with designers, architects, fire engineers, MEP, and other key stakeholders to ensure building regulations and BSA compliance. The ideal candidate must have a strong understanding of the regulatory regime and guidance documents that demonstrate compliance with the building regulations.

Duties:
- Carry out building inspections, plan checks, site visits, surveys and prepare reports.
- Offer advice around the Building Safety Act and ensure compliance on projects.
- Liaison with clients and their professional teams around project scope and management of the fee proposal process.
- Reviewing scheme proposals and providing initial comments and mark-ups with regards to compliance.
- Reviewing and responding to queries in relation to early-stage design development.
- Providing expert ad-hoc advice on Building Regulations compliance as required.
- Formal report writing with annotations to clearly demonstrate compliance in order to support the design team's submission to approving authorities.
- Create compliance trackers to ensure projects are monitored for BSA and Building Regulations compliance.
- Support clients with the relevant planning gateways.
- Inspect properties and buildings at key stages of the building process.
- Attend client and design team meetings to offer professional input relating to building regulations compliance.
- Provide technical advice to clients, contractors, developers, colleagues, and key stakeholders.
- Ensure projects are completed in line with current building regulations and legislation.
Requirements:
- Degree in Building Surveying, Construction Management, Architecture or similar discipline.
- Membership to CABE, RICS or CIOB.
- Previous experience as a Building Control Surveyor or Building Inspector along with experience of inspecting buildings and properties.
- Registered Building Inspector Class 2 E/F.
- Excellent knowledge of the Building Safety Act, building regulations, codes and legislation.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
