Role: Building Regulations Principal Designer

Sector: Construction Consultancy

Salary: £50,000 - £60,000 + attractive benefits package

WRG has recently partnered with an independent construction consultancy that operates across the North of England. The business has ambitious plans for developing their Building Regulations Principal Designer service this year and is looking to appoint an experienced and competent building regulations professional, ideally someone who has previously worked as Building Control Surveyor/ Building Inspector or similar capacity.

You will sit within their newly established CDM/ Principal Designer team and deliver the Building Regulations Principal Designer role to a diverse portfolio of clients across the built environment typically within the residential (public and private), heritage, commercial, leisure, hotel and office, with a real focus on high value master planning, major projects and multi-million pound developments. This role has been created off the back of the changes happening in the industry related to the Building Safety Act, and the business wanting to integrate their PD and Building Safety service offering.

The Building Regs PD will support their clients and help navigate the changes affecting the industry and ensure that building regs and BSA compliance is achieved. They already have a healthy pipeline of work and have tendered for several more future projects to offer the Building Regs PD service to existing clients.

The role would suit a Building Control Surveyor or Building Inspector with several years of experience in the sector, offering their services to a range of clients and projects. Excellent interpersonal skills are required due to the client facing nature of the role.

Duties:

  • Carry out building inspections, plan checks, site visits, surveys and prepare reports.
  • Offer advice around the Building Safety Act and ensure compliance on projects.
  • Liaise with Principal Designer, Principal Contractor and other parties.
  • Undertake plan checks submitted for Building Regulation approval.
  • Create compliance trackers to ensure projects are monitored for BSA and Building Regs compliance.
  • Support clients with the relevant planning gateways.
  • Inspect properties and buildings at key stages of the building process.
  • Attend client and design team meetings to offer professional input relation to building regs compliance.
  • Provide technical advice to clients, contractors, developers, colleagues, and key stakeholders.
  • Ensure projects are completed in line with current building regulations and legislation.

Requirements:

  • Degree in Building Surveying, Construction Management, Architecture or similar discipline (desirable but not essential).
  • Membership to CABE.
  • Experience of inspecting buildings and properties.
  • Excellent knowledge of the Building Safety Act, building regulations, codes and legislation.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.

Apply:

Salary in the region of £50,000 - £60,000. 25 days holiday allowance. Company pension plan. Private healthcare scheme. Excellent CPD, training and support from day one with the business. Hybrid working environment. Professional membership fees covered. Clear career pathway with opportunities for progression and development.
