Role: Building Regulations Principal Designer

Location: Remote based. Must be able to travel to projects across London & Home Counties.

Salary: Up to £50,000 + attractive benefits package.

WRG has a truly brilliant opportunity for an experienced and competent design professional who would like to take a side step in their career and join an independent construction and engineering consultancy, to deliver the Building Regulations Principal Designer service. Our client has been delivering innovative and high quality engineering solutions for over 40 years, working across a diverse range of sectors, including residential, education, healthcare, office, industrial and heritage schemes.

As Building Regulations Principal Designer, you will act as a central figure in ensuring projects meet the requirements of the Building Safety Act and Building Regulations framework. Working closely with engineers, MEP team, architects, clients, and wider design teams, you will help guide projects through the compliance process while promoting best practice in design coordination and risk management.

I have previously recruited for the business and I know from personal experience that the successful candidate will join a close knit team of building safety professionals. There is a huge emphasis on training and development across this particular team, the senior leadership team is there to support you every step of the way and with their guidance, ensure you are successful in the role. Our client would ideally like to appoint a design professional, due to the nature of this role being very design focused. Full training and support would be provided within the role along with clear targets for progression and promotion.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the role of Building Regulations Principal Designer in accordance with the Building Safety Act.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary design teams to ensure compliance with Building Regulations from concept through to completion.
  • Manage and review submissions to regulatory bodies, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Provide clear guidance and advice to clients and project teams on regulatory compliance strategies.
  • Identify and manage design risks associated with building safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain accurate and structured documentation demonstrating compliance and design decisions.
  • Collaborate closely with internal engineering teams and external consultants to ensure coordinated and compliant design solutions.
  • Support the delivery of high-quality, safe and efficient projects across a wide range of sectors.

Requirements:

  • Background as an Architect/ Architectural Technologist with an excellent technical understanding of the building regulations, approved documents and the Building Safety Act.
  • Membership to RIBA or ARB.
  • Understanding of RIBA Framework (stages 1-5).
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Full UK driving license.
