An established residential developer is looking to recruit an experienced Buyer to join their commercial team on an initial six-month fixed-term contract.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced construction buyer with a strong background in housebuilding materials procurement to join a busy and well-established business.

You'll play a key role in ensuring materials and plant are procured efficiently, cost-effectively and in line with build programmes.

The Role

  • Reporting into the Commercial team, your responsibilities will include:
  • Procuring materials and plant to meet build programme requirements.
  • Negotiating competitive prices, terms and rebate agreements with suppliers.
  • Developing and maintaining strong supplier relationships.
  • Preparing material take-offs, schedules and purchase orders.
  • Obtaining and analysing quotations, ensuring best value is achieved.
  • Monitoring market trends, material pricing and availability.
  • Identifying value engineering opportunities without compromising quality.
  • Working closely with site teams to coordinate deliveries.
  • Managing supplier queries and resolving invoice issues.
  • Attending site meetings where required.
  • Supporting commercial performance through effective procurement strategies.

Requirements

To be considered, you should have

  • A minimum of 10 years' experience in a Buyer role within the UK housebuilding sector.
  • Strong knowledge of construction materials, specifications and current market pricing.
  • Excellent negotiation and commercial skills.
  • The ability to read and interpret construction drawings and technical information.
  • Experience preparing material schedules and purchase orders.
  • Good organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • Experience using COINS, Bluebeam, Project Vault or similar systems would be advantageous.
  • A full UK driving licence.
