The Assessments Case Review Officer will lead the quality assurance of Education, Health and Care (EHC) needs assessments within the SEND Assessment Service. Working closely with families, schools, and health and social care professionals, the postholder will ensure decisions are evidence‑based, legally compliant and defensible, provide professional challenge, maintain clear audit trails, and identify cases requiring escalation.
The role also involves leading pre‑mediation and pre‑legal meetings, supporting mediation and tribunal processes, delivering training, analysing service trends and developing guidance to improve decision‑making consistency across the department.
This post is covered by the Government’s Code of Practice on the English Language Fluency Duty for public sector workers. The post holder will be required to communicate verbally with customers and provide advice and/or information in accurate spoken English.

A BPSS check involves four main elements; Identity Check, National and Immigration Status, Employment History (last 3 years) and Verification of Criminal Record (unspent convictions only).
