Street Cleansing Operative – Level 2

Salary – £25,584 – £27,269 (Pro rata) (Grade 4)

Hours – 14.5 per week (Hours of work will include regular weekend and out of hours working)

Contract type – Part time, permanent

Are you passionate about creating a cleaner, safer environment for your community? Do you take pride in your work and enjoy being part of a team? We are looking for a dedicated and hardworking Street Cleansing Operative – Level 2 to join our team and help maintain our city.

Role responsibilities:

  1. Perform a wide variety of tasks related to general environmental maintenance and street cleansing operations, including vehicle driving (precinct cleaner), litter picking, bin emptying, sweeping, deep cleansing, manual handling, and use of hand carts, working alone or with others.
  2. Organise team members and temporary/agency/unskilled operatives in service delivery.
  3. Use and set tools and equipment safely, including powered hand tools, light plant, and pedestrian equipment.
  4. Maintain accurate records such as worksheets, timesheets, chemical logs, and vehicle checklists.
  5. Communicate effectively with clients and colleagues, promptly addressing requests and reporting to supervisors/managers.

Role requirements:

  1. Current full driving licence.
  2. Emergency first aid certification or willingness to obtain within 3 months.
  3. Manual handling training completed.
  4. Proactive, motivated, and pride in work.
  5. Ability to work independently and in a team.
  6. Strong communication skills and positive attitude.
  7. Willingness to support other Environmental Services roles.
  8. Knowledge of health and safety policies.
  9. Understanding of customer care and equal opportunity policies.
