The Role
Reporting into the Executive Director, you will lead a broad and high-profile portfolio spanning regeneration, property services, planning and development management, building control, economic development, inward investment, the visitor economy, strategic planning, NuPlace, and the Homes England Land Deal. This is a role with significant influence across the organisation and a direct impact on the future prosperity of the borough.
The scale of opportunity is substantial. You'll provide leadership across a diverse programme of major capital projects, including town centre regeneration schemes, Station Quarter redevelopment, Wellington Market, the theatre and leisure centre projects, while ensuring momentum is maintained across an ambitious programme of investment and growth. At the same time, you will oversee a commercial estate generating around Β£10m of income annually, balancing investment in existing assets with opportunities for future growth.
Key priorities include maintaining delivery across a complex portfolio of projects and programmes, strengthening the council's commercial approach, supporting devolution ambitions, and developing a clearer long-term business planning framework for regeneration and investment activity. You'll work closely with elected members, senior colleagues, developers, investors, regional partners and government bodies to ensure Telford & Wrekin continues to deliver sustainable economic growth and attract investment into the borough.
The closing date for applications is 23rd September 2026.
Please note that canvassing of officers or members in relation to this appointment will automatically disqualify any application from consideration.
