Support major procurement programmes that deliver value for Birmingham

Are you looking to develop your procurement career while working on some of Birmingham City Council's most significant investment programmes? We're recruiting three Major Procurement Programme and Projects Practitioners to join our newly established Major Procurement Programmes and Projects team.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to high-value procurement activity that supports major projects across the Council. Working alongside experienced procurement professionals, you'll help develop procurement strategies, support complex tendering exercises and ensure public money is spent responsibly, ethically and effectively to deliver the best outcomes for Birmingham's communities.

About the Role

As a Major Procurement Programme and Projects Practitioner, you'll support the successful delivery of complex procurement programmes by:

• Assisting with the development of procurement strategies, sourcing approaches and tender documentation for major projects.
• Supporting procurement and tendering activities from market engagement through to contract award, ensuring compliance with governance requirements.
• Building positive relationships with internal stakeholders and suppliers, providing guidance and supporting effective procurement delivery.
• Collecting, analysing and maintaining procurement data to support performance monitoring, risk management and informed decision-making.
• Preparing reports, governance documentation and procurement records to maintain robust audit trails and project assurance.
• Supporting the development of procurement guidance, toolkits and briefing materials for colleagues across the Council.
• Identifying opportunities to improve procurement processes through better use of technology, systems and continuous improvement initiatives.

About You

We're looking for motivated procurement professionals who enjoy working collaboratively and have a strong eye for detail. You'll bring:

• Experience supporting procurement, commercial or contract management activities within a structured or regulated environment.
• Knowledge of procurement processes, tendering procedures and governance, with an understanding of value for money principles.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality work to deadlines.
• Excellent written communication skills, with experience preparing reports, presentations or procurement documentation.
• The ability to analyse information, maintain accurate records and present data to support procurement decision-making.
• Strong relationship-building skills and the confidence to work collaboratively with colleagues, suppliers and stakeholders.
• A commitment to continuous professional development, with a willingness to work towards a Level 4 CIPS Diploma.
