Elective Home Education & Out of School Service Lead

Grade 6 – £50,788 – £62,801 Consultation grade – subject to formal evaluation under the Pay Equity review

Working 36.5 hours per week.

The role is hybrid; however, the post holder would be required to work from Birmingham City Council buildings as business needs dictate.

Are you passionate about education and safeguarding? Birmingham City Council is seeking a dedicated and experienced professional to join our Children and Families Directorate as the Elective Home Education & Out of School Settings Service Lead. This pivotal role offers the opportunity to lead a dynamic team, ensuring the delivery of high-quality services to home-educated children and those in out-of-school settings.

As a service lead, you will provide leadership and oversight to the Elective Home Education team, ensuring compliance with statutory duties and safeguarding requirements. You will develop and implement policies, establish effective partnerships with stakeholders, and lead quality assurance initiatives to maintain high standards across the service. Additionally, the Service Lead will manage individual cases of concern, oversee Ofsted enquiries regarding unregulated provision, and support the quality assurance of services to maintain high standards. The role also includes managing staff, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, and promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion within the service area.

The ideal candidate will have substantial leadership and management experience in education or social care services, with a strong understanding of safeguarding practices. You should be adept at managing teams, handling complex cases, and working under pressure. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential, as is the ability to build effective relationships with colleagues, external agencies, and families.
