Apprentice Trading Standards Officer
We are excited to offer a vacancy for an Apprentice Trading Standards Officer to join our busy professional Trading Standards and Environmental Compliance team.
As an Apprentice Trading Standards Officer, you’ll embark on a diverse and (we believe) deeply rewarding journey towards a nationally recognised professional qualification and a meaningful public service career.
As part of your role, you’ll focus on tackling illegal tobacco and vapes, and underage sales. You’ll support businesses to be compliant, and your work will help to protect consumers, particularly children.
At the same time, you’ll gain a Level 6 Trading Standards Apprenticeship (the equivalent of a Batchelors Degree) across all areas of Trading Standards activity including Animal Health and Welfare; Environmental Protection; Fair Trading; Feed and Food Standards; Product Safety; Weights and Measures. This structured development plan will help you develop the skills and knowledge needed to become fully qualified Trading Standards Officer.

To be successful you willhave achieved at A-Level, be highly motivated with excellent interpersonal skills to enable you to deal professionally with the public and businesses, responding to a wide range of people and situations requiring good use of interpersonal and negotiating skills to achieve objectives. You will have strong attention to detail and great organisational abilities, alongside the commitment and desire to study towards the professional qualification.
While prior knowledge of Trading Standards is helpful, it’s not essential—we’re open to a range of backgrounds and experiences.
