About the Role
We are recruiting for an experienced Children’s Support Worker to join a Children’s Social Care service, providing practical and social support to children, young people and families aged 0–25. You will work alongside qualified Social Workers and partner agencies to safeguard vulnerable children, support care planning and deliver direct interventions that promote positive outcomes, wellbeing and resilience.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide practical and direct support to children, young people and families in their homes and the community.
- Contribute to assessments, care planning and reviews, maintaining a child-centred approach.
- Undertake home visits, welfare checks and safeguarding visits, identifying and reporting risks appropriately.
- Support children subject to Child in Need, Child Protection and Looked After Children plans.
- Support and supervise family contact in line with agreed care plans, including transport where required.
- Recognise and respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns and serious risks.
- Provide crisis intervention and emergency support where required to help keep children safe.
- Support Social Workers during Section 47 Child Protection Enquiries and other safeguarding activity.
- Help children and young people transition and settle into new homes and placements.
- Advocate for children and young people and support them to participate in decisions affecting their lives.
- Provide practical support, signposting and referrals to appropriate services.
- Work collaboratively with Social Workers, partner agencies and community organisations.
- Maintain accurate and high-quality case records and information.
- Provide practical and administrative support to qualified Social Workers as required.
- Contribute to court-related work, supervision, team meetings and ongoing professional development.
About You
You will have experience of working with children, young people and families, ideally within a social care, safeguarding, residential, family support or community setting.
You will need:
- A strong understanding of safeguarding and promoting children's welfare.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to recognise and report risk appropriately.
- A child-centred and strengths-based approach.
- The ability to remain calm and effective in challenging or crisis situations.
- Good partnership-working skills.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a wider team.
- Good recording and administrative skills.
- An understanding of child development, wellbeing, resilience and emotional needs.
