Job Description
INTERIM PAYROLL CONTROLLER - BUILDING SERVICES
\n
SOUTH WEST LONDON - 3 DAYS A WEEK, 50/50 HYBRID - 6-MONTH INTERIM - A STEP UP TO OWN A PAYROLL AND ITS MOVE TO OUTSOURCING
\n
\n
£275-£350 per day (inside IR35)
\n
Are you a Senior Payroll Officer or Payroll Supervisor who can run a manual payroll with confidence and is ready for the next step? Do you want an interim that puts a full payroll outsourcing project on your CV, and are you happy to muck in on the admin too?
\n
\n
We Do Group are working with a national building services business, recruiting an interim Payroll Controller for six months on a three-day per week basis. It's a step up for someone who has been processing payroll for a while and is ready to take ownership of one. The business is moving its payroll to an outsourced provider, and you'll run the payroll in-house while that happens, reporting to the Head of Finance.
\n
\n
Around 260 people are paid through the payroll, and more than half of them are on overtime and other variable pay, so the processing is detailed and largely manual. Alongside that, you'll manage the switch to the new provider and check it's all running properly before the admin side is handed to someone else in the business. If you've been involved in a system change or outsourcing before, even without leading it, this is a chance to see one through from start to finish. There's some general admin in the mix too, such as opening the post and handling parking fines for fleet drivers, so it helps to be relaxed about that.
\n
\n
WISH LIST
\n
• Solid hands-on payroll experience, confident running a busy, variable payroll by hand and getting it right every month
\n
• Some exposure to a payroll outsourcing or system migration, and keen to take more responsibility for one
\n
• Organised and down to earth, with no issue picking up admin outside the job description
\n
\n
THE ROLE
\n
• Run the monthly payroll for around 260 employees, collating overtime, absence and adjustments before each pay run
\n
• Review the payroll for accuracy and keep it compliant with HMRC rules
\n
• Complete month-end, from HMRC submissions and pensions to the payroll journals
\n
• Work out manual gross-to-net calculations for bonuses and termination payments
\n
• Process SSP, SMP and SPP correctly
\n
• Be the first point of contact for pay queries from staff and managers
\n
• Keep HR and payroll in step on new starters, leavers and pay changes
\n
• Administer the pension scheme and private medical insurance day to day
\n
• Take ownership of the move to an external payroll provider through to go-live
\n
• Check the provider's first pay runs and make sure the new setup is working as it should
\n
• Help hand over the admin side of the role to a colleague or new administrator
\n
• Handle general admin, including the post and parking and traffic fines for company drivers
\n
\n
YOUR PROFILE
\n
• Experienced Payroll Officer, Senior Payroll Administrator or Payroll Supervisor ready for a step up
\n
• Effective communicator - written & verbal
\n
• Good working knowledge of MS Excel
\n
• Involvement in a payroll outsourcing or system migration, even if you didn't lead it
\n
• Available to start immediately or at short notice
\n
\n
RATE & BENEFITS
\n
• £275-£350 per day (inside IR35), depending on experience
\n
• 3 days a week, split 50/50 between the office and home
\n
• 6-month contract, starting ASAP
