We’re working with a national heating services company currently entering a phase of growth and transformation following an acquisition. As part of their dedicated finance function, they’re looking for a Payroll Controller to take ownership of end-to-end payroll processes across two business units.

This is a part-time, flexible role ideally suited to an experienced payroll professional who is confident working independently and has strong technical expertise. You’ll manage the monthly payroll cycle, ensure legal compliance, handle reporting requirements, and act as the go-to contact for payroll-related queries across the business.

The role will be fully remote, with one day per week in their New Malden office preferred. This is initially a contract with the potential to become permanent. Weekly hours can be spread across three to five days.

Key Responsibilities:

  • End-to-end payroll processing across two entities:
  • 220 employees via Access SelectPay + 12 employees via QuickBooks
  • Coordinate and process overtime, absences, starters, leavers, and payroll adjustments
  • Ensure payroll compliance and stay updated with HMRC regulations and statutory requirements (e.g. SSP, SMP, SPP)
  • Manage pension submissions, general ledger journals, and monthly HMRC filings
  • Act as first point of contact for employee pay queries and internal stakeholders
  • Perform manual gross/net pay calculations where needed (e.g. bonuses, terminations)
  • Oversee employee benefit schemes including private medical insurance and company pensions
  • Coordinate annual payroll processes including P60s, P11Ds, and system updates
  • Maintain accurate electronic payroll records and drive continuous process improvements
  • Support Finance and HR with ad-hoc payroll data and reporting
  • Manage parking and traffic fine processes for company fleet drivers
  • Provide purchase ledger support for overheads (e.g. recruitment, fleet)

What We’re Looking For:

  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in a similar payroll role
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving mindset
  • Confident working independently as well as collaboratively
  • Proficient with Excel and comfortable managing payroll systems
  • Able to build effective working relationships across departments
  • Experience with payroll software (Access SelectPay, QuickBooks) desirable
