INTERIM PAYROLL CONTROLLER - BUILDING SERVICES

SOUTH WEST LONDON - 3 DAYS A WEEK, 50/50 HYBRID - 6-MONTH INTERIM - RUN THE PAYROLL AND SEE IT THROUGH TO OUTSOURCING

£400 per day (inside IR35)

Are you an interim Payroll Controller who's comfortable processing a busy, variable payroll by hand?

Do you enjoy seeing a payroll outsourcing all the way through, and are you happy to pick up the admin that comes with the seat?

We Do Group are supporting a national building services business, recruiting an interim Payroll Controller for six months on a three-day per week basis.

The business has decided to move its payroll to an outsourced provider, and this role sees that change all the way through.

You'll keep the in-house payroll running while you manage the move, then stay on after go-live to make sure everything is working as it should.

The payroll covers around 260 employees, and more than half of them are on variable pay with overtime, so the in-house processing is hands-on and a lot of it is manual.

Once the outsourcing has bedded in, the admin side of the role will pass to someone else in the business or a new administrator.

There's also some general admin that sits with this seat, like opening the post and dealing with parking and traffic fines for the company's fleet drivers, so it suits someone who has done a migration before and isn't precious about the job description.

  • WISH LIST
  • Hands-on experience processing a sizeable payroll manually, with plenty of overtime, absence and adjustments to deal with each month
  • Has managed a payroll outsourcing or system migration before, and knows what needs checking once the new setup goes live
  • Practical and flexible, happy to do the low-level admin alongside the technical work

THE ROLE

  • Process the monthly in-house payroll for around 260 employees, pulling together overtime, absence and other adjustments ahead of each run
  • Check the payroll for accuracy and make sure it complies with current HMRC legislation
  • Handle month-end reporting, including HMRC submissions, pensions and payroll journals
  • Carry out manual gross-to-net calculations for bonuses and termination payments
  • Make sure SSP, SMP and SPP are paid correctly
  • Work with HR on starters, leavers and pay changes, and deal with pay queries from managers and staff
  • Look after day-to-day benefits admin, including the pension scheme and private medical insurance
  • Manage the move of payroll to an external provider through to go-live
  • Stay on after go-live to check the provider's output and make sure everything is running as it should
  • Support the handover of the admin side of the role to a colleague or new administrator
  • Pick up ad hoc admin, including the post and fleet parking and traffic fines

YOUR PROFILE

  • Experienced Payroll Controller or Payroll Manager, ideally with five or more years in a similar role
  • Effective communicator - written & verbal
  • Good working knowledge of MS Excel
  • Previous payroll outsourcing or system migration experience
  • Available to start immediately or at short notice
  • RATE & BENEFITS
  • £400 per day (inside IR35)
  • 3 days a week, split 50/50 between the office and home
  • 6-month contract, starting ASAP
