Gillingham – Office Based (5 Days Per Week)

We're supporting a growing, multi-site business that's looking to appoint a Graduate Finance Assistant to join its friendly and supportive finance team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate or someone looking to take their first step into finance. You'll receive full training while gaining exposure across Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, reconciliations, cash allocations and month-end processes, giving you a fantastic foundation to build a long-term career in accounting.

If you're organised, eager to learn and enjoy working with numbers, this is a brilliant opportunity to kick‑start your career within a growing business.

The Role

Reporting into the Finance Team Leader, you'll support the day-to-day running of a busy finance department, learning the fundamentals of transactional finance while building valuable experience across multiple areas of accounting.

You'll receive hands‑on training from experienced colleagues and gradually take ownership of a variety of finance tasks, developing your knowledge of reconciliations, cash allocation, month-end processes and financial controls.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone looking to build a long-term career in finance within a supportive and collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process customer receipts, refunds, remittances and cash allocations accurately
  • Assist with customer account reconciliations and bank reconciliations
  • Support the investigation of payment discrepancies and account queries
  • Help maintain the Accounts Receivable ledger, ensuring customer accounts remain accurate
  • Assist with month-end reconciliations and finance reporting
  • Support the wider Accounts Payable team during busy periods
  • Liaise with internal departments to resolve finance queries
  • Maintain accurate financial records across multiple systems
  • Assist with general finance administration and ad-hoc projects
  • Contribute to process improvements and support the wider finance team where required

In an ideal world, we're looking for:

  • A recent graduate in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business, or a related subject
  • Alternatively, someone studying AAT, ACCA or CIMA looking for their first finance opportunity
  • Strong numerical skills and excellent attention to detail
  • Good Microsoft Excel skills and confidence using Microsoft Office
  • Positive attitude with a genuine desire to build a career in finance
  • Strong communication skills and willingness to learn from experienced colleagues
  • Organised, proactive and able to manage multiple tasks
  • Previous office, administration, retail or customer service experience would be advantageous, but not essential

Why Join?

This is a fantastic opportunity to begin your finance career with a business that genuinely invests in its people. You'll receive full training, gain exposure across multiple areas of finance, and develop the skills and experience needed to progress into more senior accounting roles over time.
