We're supporting a rapidly growing, multi-site retail business that is looking to add an Accounts Assistant to its established finance team.
This is a busy, hands-on transactional finance role with a particular focus on the sales ledger and Accounts Receivable . You'll be responsible for processing and allocating high volumes of payments, completing reconciliations, dealing with refunds and investigating discrepancies to ensure accounts remain accurate.
The role will also provide some exposure to Accounts Payable and Credit Control , giving you a good breadth of experience across transactional finance. We're looking for someone who already has a solid grounding in AR or Sales Ledger and enjoys working with numbers, solving queries and keeping things organised.
What You'll Be Doing
You'll work closely with the wider finance and operational teams to keep day-to-day transactions running smoothly across a busy, multi-site organisation.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Process and allocate customer payments, receipts, remittances and credit notes
- Prepare and process customer refunds, ensuring appropriate checks and approvals are completed
- Complete regular customer, bank and control account reconciliations
- Investigate unmatched payments, account differences and outstanding balances
- Maintain accurate sales ledger records and ensure accounts are kept up to date
- Review aged debt and assist with resolving overdue balances where required
- Liaise with teams across the business to investigate and resolve finance queries
- Support daily payment processing and maintain accurate supporting documentation
- Assist with recharge accounts and follow up outstanding amounts with relevant third parties
- Provide support with month-end reconciliations and ledger reporting
- Assist the Accounts Payable team during particularly busy periods
- Help identify simple improvements to finance processes and ways of working
About You
We're looking for someone who has already gained some experience within transactional finance and is now looking for a broader Accounts Assistant position.
Ideally, you'll have:
- Previous experience within Accounts Receivable, Sales Ledger or an Accounts Assistant position
- Good experience with cash allocation and account reconciliations
- Confidence investigating discrepancies and resolving transactional queries
- Some understanding of Credit Control, with AP exposure beneficial but not essential
- Experience working with a high volume of transactions
- Good attention to detail and a methodical approach to your work
- Comfortable Excel skills and experience using accounting or ERP systems
- Strong communication skills and confidence dealing with different teams across a business
- A proactive attitude and willingness to get involved across the wider finance function
