Head of Shared Services
Permanent | London (Paddington) | Hybrid – 3 Days Per Week in Office

We\'re working with a rapidly expanding, PE-backed infrastructure company that\'s aggressively growing via acquisitions. They\'re looking for a seasoned Head of Shared Services to lead a large transactional finance team through integration, optimisation, and continuous improvement as the business scales.
This is a leadership role, ideally suited to someone with deep experience in Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Cash & Banking, system implementation, and change management. You\'ll be responsible for driving consistency, efficiency, and control across the shared services operations, and for guiding the team through merger integrations and process/system harmonisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a team of c. 32 finance professionals across AP, AR, Cash & Banking; build capability, mentor, provide feedback, and drive performance.
- Oversee all transactional finance operations to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with internal policy and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure smooth integration of finance functions following acquisitions – harmonising policies, systems, and processes.
- Partner with operations, commercial, HR, IT, and senior leadership to ensure shared services deliver excellent service delivery, and align with business goals.
- Define, monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) & Service Level Agreements (SLAs) for AP, AR, cash management etc., driving continuous improvement.
- Lead system / tool improvements, automation initiatives, and streamline processes to increase efficiency and reduce risk.
- Ensure high quality management reporting – provide insight into trends, risks, cash flow, debtor/creditor ageing, anomalies.
- Manage end-of-month / quarter / year‐end close activities related to these functions and ensure reconciliations are done accurately.
- Drive training, learning & development within the team – build succession, skills, knowledge sharing, cross‐functional collaboration.
- Manage supplier payments, customer collections, cash forecasting.
- Develop and maintain robust internal controls across all transactional finance processes.
What We\'re Looking For
- Qualified accountant (ACCA, ACA, CIMA, or equivalent) with strong operational finance leadership experience.
- Proven track record managing sizeable teams in transactional/shared services finance in a fast-paced, growing business. Must have overseen both AP and AR.
- Experience with acquisition, integration and change management – especially merging finance systems/processes post deal.
- Excellent systems knowledge (Dynamics 365) and experience implementing automation.
- Strong analytical skills; able to extract useful insight from data and present to senior stakeholders.
- Experience working in construction or property is beneficial.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills; able to lead from the front and build consensus.
- Commercial mindset, able to find efficiency gains, cost savings and ensure scalable financial operations.
