Location: Birmingham (hybrid working)
We are looking for an enthusiastic and detail-oriented Assistant Accountant to join our Finance team in Birmingham. Reporting directly to the Financial Controller, this role will support a range of accounting functions, including month-end close, journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to grow their career in finance, with hands-on exposure to both operational and strategic finance tasks.
Key Responsibilities
Month-End & Financial Support
- Assist in the timely and accurate month-end close process
- Prepare journals, accruals, and prepayments
- Support balance sheet reconciliations and investigations
- Assist in stock monitoring and maintenance of the asset register
Accounting Operations
- Process and code invoices and purchase orders
- Assist with ad-hoc financial reporting and analysis
- Maintain and update price lists and inventory records
Administrative Support
- Support the day-to-day operations of Accounting Services
Key Relationships:
- Internal: Daily interaction with the Financial Controller, Senior Financial Accountant, and wider Finance team
- Cross-functional: Regular contact with the Shared Services Centre (SSC), Lines of Business, and Divisional Functions
Key Requirements
- Previous experience in a finance or accounting support role
- Strong Excel and systems skills
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Working towards AAT, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent
- Experience with accounting systems (e.g., Oracle, SAP)
