We Build Recruitment is hiring a Tendering Engineer on behalf of our client, a specialist engineering and operations company supporting the UK energy and utilities sectors. The role involves leading the preparation and submission of competitive tenders, managing client relationships, and supporting business growth.

The Tendering Engineer will manage the end-to-end tendering process for both design and operational projects. This role combines technical, commercial and business development responsibilities – ideal for a confident, commercially aware individual capable of representing the company to clients and industry stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the preparation, coordination and submission of bids, proposals and tender responses.
  • Manage and mentor the Bid Administrator to ensure smooth delivery of tendering activities.
  • Review, baseline and maintain the company rate library to ensure competitiveness.
  • Engage proactively with the supply chain to secure competitive and compliant quotations.
  • Lead bids for key frameworks and project opportunities across design and operations.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (Technical, Commercial, SHESQ) to deliver high‑quality submissions.
  • Represent the company during client meetings, tender clarifications and negotiations.
  • Support Business Development activities through client engagement and market intelligence.
  • Report on bid progress, outcomes and pipeline performance to senior management.
  • Apply a strong understanding of tendering within engineering, utilities or energy sectors.
  • Exercise commercial acumen to develop competitive bids and manage costs.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Lead and develop a small team where required.
  • Organise and manage multiple bids simultaneously.
  • Maintain strong technical awareness and liaise effectively with engineering teams.
  • Be proficient in MS Office and familiar with online tender portals.
Experience & Qualifications
  • Degree or HNC/HND in Engineering, Business or a related discipline (desirable).
  • Proven experience in tendering, proposals or bid management within the energy or utilities sector.
  • Demonstrable record of leading successful bids and framework submissions.
  • Experience in supplier engagement and commercial negotiations.
  • Familiarity with NEC contracts and framework tendering is advantageous.
