We Build Recruitment are now looking to hire a Design Engineer on behalf of our client, a Bristol based high voltage grid connection specialist. The Design Engineer will be working on electrical projects on behalf of the Company and will be involved with projects ranging from LV through to 132kV.
Responsibilities include:
- Working as part of a team to review Distribution Network Operator (DNO) Contestable Connection Offers and compiling contestable and private designs for grid connections ranging from LV up to and including 132kV.
- Assisting in the conceptual design of various types of energy projects, principally Solar Farms and Battery Energy Storage.
- Working on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Maintaining awareness of internal Health & Safety policy and company policies and keeping up to date on changes that impact your role.
- Understanding and implementing the company's Policies and Procedures in respect to Health, Safety, Quality and Environment.
- Conducting technical reviews of projects and DNO and National grid connection offers.
- Designing and conceptualising both the grid connection and private network infrastructure from LV up to and including 132kV.
- Reviewing Main Connection and protection single line diagrams.
- Reviewing cable route designs.
- Selecting and specifying switchgear.
- Conducting cable sizing studies.
- Designing Small Power and Lighting.
- Designing Substation Layouts.
- Managing the design of projects on both the grid connection and private network infrastructure from LV up to and including 132kV.
- Managing Design Sub-Contractors.
- Following all published guidelines, standards, policies, and procedures to ensure satisfactory delivery of work.
- Recommending/attending training as required to maintain knowledge and application of systems and procedures.
- Supporting the design process of complex projects.
- Attending site visits if required with the construction team to ensure smooth design delivery.
- Supporting the operations team with site level queries that impact design.
- Arranging design review meetings with the operations team to ensure they have had input to ensure practical buildability of the designs.
- Supporting project delivery by assisting in regular POW updates with the relevant Project Managers.
- Ensuring contract milestones are met through the design process.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering.
- AutoCAD experience.
- IT systems experience and competency.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Project Management Experience.
- Managing drawing register and design submissions to the DNO/Client.
- Advanced MS Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project Programming Software).
- Master’s degree (Power) is preferred.
- Ability to create a design delivery programme.
