We Build Recruitment are currently seeking an experienced SSEN Commissioning Engineer to support major electrical infrastructure projects across multiple sites along the M4 Corridor. This is a high-value contract opportunity offering excellent day rates and long-term work on nationally significant power network projects. This role is ideal for a driven and technically strong commissioning professional with proven SSEN or DNO experience, looking to work on complex and critical power network upgrades.
Role Overview
As an SSEN Commissioning Engineer, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient commissioning of electrical assets, ensuring all work complies with SSEN standards, industry regulations, and project specifications. You will work closely with project managers, site teams, and network operators to deliver commissioning activities on time and to the highest safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out commissioning and testing of HV and LV electrical systems in line with SSEN procedures
- Perform protection relay testing, switchgear commissioning, and functional testing
- Prepare commissioning plans, test documentation, and completion reports
- Ensure all commissioning activities comply with safety rules and operational procedures
- Liaise with site supervisors, project managers, and control rooms during energisation activities
- Identify and resolve technical faults and commissioning issues
- Support outage planning and network integration activities
- Maintain accurate records and certification documentation
- Adhere strictly to health & safety standards and site-specific regulations
- Participate in commissioning handover and final acceptance processes
Essential Requirements
- Proven experience working as a Commissioning Engineer on SSEN or UK DNO projects
- Strong knowledge of HV electrical systems and commissioning procedures
- Authorisations with SSEN (or similar DNO authorisations) preferred
- Excellent understanding of electrical safety rules and network operations
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics
- ECS/CSCS card (or equivalent)
- Full UK driving licence
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work across multiple project sites along the M4 Corridor
