Contract Type: 12 Month Fixed Term Contract

Salary: Starting from £79,500 per annum (London), plus ECU allowance (if policy requirements are met)

Reporting Office: Stratford, London

Agile Worker: 20% - 40% of contractual hours to be worked from reporting office/working location (hybrid working)

Join our Development & Project Management Team at L&Q! We are looking for a Senior Development Manager who is innovative, commercially focused, risk conscious, and an experienced problem solver, to join the team and help us to deliver our ambitious plans.

The Senior Development Manager focuses on our high profile, larger or more complex projects. You’ll need to be proficient in foreseeing risk, problem solving and finding suitable solutions rapidly, while considering the financial and commercial impact.

Are you an experienced senior project manager with a strong track record in housing-led delivery? Do you have substantial knowledge of contract law and the ability to manage development agreements and build contracts? Do you have experience of mobilizing Land and Planning positions into deliverable housing schemes? If this sounds like you, we’d love to see your expertise in action!

Your Impact in the Role:

  • Project Leadership & Delivery: Manage a portfolio of housing-led delivery, and remediation projects from inception to completion, ensuring delivery on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards whilst working closely with our Land team on pipeline opportunities during the lead in to delivery.
  • Strategic Development & Planning: Contribute to business case development, options appraisals, and the production of detailed project plans and risk registers.
  • Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration: Build and maintain strong relationships with internal teams and external partners including local authorities, contractors, and consultants. Represent L&Q in public forums and governance groups.
  • Financial & Risk Management: Take responsibility for project budgets, ensuring effective financial control and best value. Identify and mitigate risks, ensuring compliance with planning, funding, and legal obligations.
  • Team Leadership & Compliance: Manage and support project staff, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement. Ensure compliance with health and safety, regulatory, and governance standards.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Project Management Expertise: Strong experience managing complex housing delivery, joint ventures or construction projects, with a proven ability to deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strategic & Commercial Acumen: Skilled in financial planning, risk management, and value engineering, with a focus on delivering high-quality, cost-effective outcomes.
  • Stakeholder & Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to influence and negotiate at all levels.
  • Technical Knowledge: Professional qualifications (e.g. RICS, CIOB, RTPI, RIBA) or equivalent experience, with knowledge of contractual law, planning, development control, and construction practices.
  • IT Proficiency: Confident using Microsoft Office and business systems, development appraisals with strong coordination and multitasking abilities.
  • Customer & Community Focus: A commitment to customer satisfaction and experience working in customer-facing environments.
