We’re looking for a Special Applications & Field Support Engineer to install, commission, maintain and support our expanding portfolio of construction technology.
THE ROLE
Working closely with the Technology Operations Supervisor, you’ll install and support Komatsu factory technology and third‑party systems across the Komatsu construction equipment range.
Your primary responsibility will be depot‑based installation work, alongside field technical support, commissioning assistance and customer training throughout the UK.
The role requires strong electrical, hydraulic and mechanical engineering skills, excellent diagnostic ability and a customer‑focused approach.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Install and commission technology systems on new and used Komatsu machinery.
- Complete electrical, hydraulic and mechanical installations.
- Configure, calibrate and test machine‑control systems, sensors and hardware.
- Install tiltrotators, quick couplers, safety systems and operator‑assistance technology.
- Inspect and test machines before customer handover.
- Produce accurate installation documentation and service reports.
- Ensure work meets manufacturer specifications and Mc Hale Komatsu quality standards.
- Diagnose faults remotely and on site.
- Complete repairs, upgrades, software updates and recalibrations.
- Support machine commissioning, customer handovers and operator familiarisation.
- Assist Field Service Engineers with specialist diagnostics.
- Support the servicing and repair of Komatsu equipment when specialist installation work is not required.
- Travel nationally to support customers and our depot network.

ABOUT YOU
You’ll ideally have
- Experience working with construction plant, heavy equipment, agricultural machinery or similar.
- Strong electrical, hydraulic and mechanical diagnostic skills.
- The ability to read wiring diagrams and hydraulic schematics.
- Excellent fault‑finding and problem‑solving skills.
- Good IT skills and confidence using diagnostic software.
- Strong communication and customer‑service skills.
- A full UK driving licence.
- Flexibility to travel throughout the UK, including occasional overnight stays.
Experience with Komatsu i MC, machine‑control systems, tiltrotators, construction safety technology, CAN Bus systems or electronic diagnostics would be advantageous.
Manufacturer training or recognised technical qualifications would also be beneficial.
You’ll be self‑motivated, organised and adaptable, with excellent attention to detail and a genuine interest in engineering and emerging technology.
