Our client is a leading electrical services provider, specialising in commercial & residential projects. They are dedicated to delivering top-quality electrical solutions with a focus on safety, efficiency, and innovation. With continued grow, they are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Department Lead / Operations Manager to join the NW team.

Role Overview:

As the Department Lead / Operations Manager, you will report directly to the Directors and be responsible for overseeing all operations within the electrical department. You will lead a team of skilled electricians & supply chain, manage projects, and ensure all work is completed in accordance with all statutory and regulatory legislation and to the highest standards. This role requires strong leadership, technical & commercial expertise, and a commitment to delivering exceptional service to the clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the electrical department, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations.
  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee electrical projects from inception to completion.
  • Maintain full alignment with the estimating department over project viability and pricing.
  • Planning and organising the duties of employees and supply chain for the delivery of all aspects of the nationwide pipeline.
  • Work with the commercial team for the presentation of project CVR (Cost Value Reconciliation) forecasts to the Directors.
  • Work with the commercial / estimating team to support the pricing of tenders as required for the department pipeline.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, industry legislation & standards, company policies and safe systems of work.
  • Manage budgets, resources, and schedules to achieve project profitability alongside all project goals.
  • Provide technical and best practice guidance and mentorship to all team members, whilst monitoring their performance & discipline.
  • Liaise with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Monitor project progress and implement improvements as needed.
  • Stay updated with the latest industry trends, technologies, and regulations.
  • Maintain a strategic oversight of the department alongside the Directors, ensuring that the pipeline is managed to support the overall annual targets. Recommend new strategies for performance improvements.
  • Management of the department supply chain and suppliers to ensure we maintain business standards and expectations at all levels.

Requirements:

  • Previous relevant experience in a leadership or managerial role within the electrical industry.
  • Proven experience in electrical engineering or wider MEP sector and contracting.
  • Commercially astute, with previous experience of the commercial management of a department / programme
  • Strong understanding of electrical codes, safety standards, and best practices.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills. Ability to assign workloads and responsibilities to team members and manage schedules to ensure timely deliveries of projects.
  • Ability to manage multiple nationwide projects and deadlines effectively.
  • Relevant qualifications such as an Electrical Engineering degree, Master Electrician Certification, or equivalent.
  • Management of compliance with industry bodies (IEE, NICEIC, JCT, NEC etc). Ensure all documentation is maintained to support the annual audits by all governing bodies.
  • Proficiency in project management tools and software is an advantage.
  • Ability to manage change and dispute resolution successfully.
