We are currently working in partnership with a well-established main contractor who are looking to appoint an experienced Freelance Design Manager to support delivery on a key project based in Leeds.

The Role

As Design Manager, you will be responsible for managing the design process from pre-construction through to delivery, ensuring coordination, compliance, and programme alignment across all disciplines.

You will play a key role in driving design quality and ensuring that all technical aspects are delivered efficiently and to a high standard.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing and coordinating the full design process
  • Liaising with consultants, subcontractors, and internal teams
  • Ensuring design information is delivered on time and in line with programme
  • Reviewing drawings and specifications for buildability and compliance
  • Identifying and mitigating design risks
  • Supporting project teams through design-related challenges on site

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Design Manager within a main contractor environment
  • Strong understanding of construction processes and technical design
  • Experience working on commercial / residential / mixed‑use projects (adjust if needed)
  • Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and deadlines
  • Strong communication and problem‑solving skills
