Role Summary
We are looking to appoint a Drainage Engineer to join our growing team based in Wiveliscombe. This role is central to developing effective drainage solutions across a wide range of civil engineering projects, covering sewage, surface water, and trade effluent requirements from early feasibility through to detailed design and construction support. This is a full‑time, permanent position offering a salary of up to £50,000 depending on experience. Working hours are 9am–5pm, Monday to Friday. Hybrid working is available, with a minimum of three days per week in the office.

Key Responsibilities
- You will contribute to the full lifecycle of drainage engineering projects, including:
- Developing drainage strategies, feasibility assessments, and technical solutions for a range of domestic, commercial, and municipal schemes
- Producing detailed drainage designs for construction, including foul, surface water, SuDS features, pumped and gravity systems
- Preparing construction drawings, technical notes, schematic reports, and designer risk assessments
- Completing flood risk assessments and supporting construction and commissioning activities, including setting‑out information, construction details, and clash analysis
- Working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary design team — including architects, structural and geotechnical engineers — while also being able to work independently where required
- Managing client relationships, defining project briefs, preparing fee proposals, and providing progress updates appropriate to your level of experience
- Coordinating and delivering regulatory submissions such as planning applications, environmental permits, and other statutory approvals
- Using MicroDrainage and AutoCAD for network design, modelling, and specification of water quantity and water quality features

Mentored training for professional qualifications with the ICE
Essential Skills/Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar drainage or civil engineering role
- Strong understanding of drainage design, SuDS, and water/wastewater systems
- Good working knowledge of AutoCAD
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- High attention to detail and accuracy in technical work
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
- Experience of construction site environments
- A proactive, solutions‑focused approach
Desirable Skills/Qualifications
- Knowledge of nutrient neutrality
- Knowledge of pumping station and rising main design
- Knowledge of sewage treatment
Qualifications considered:
- Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline
- HNC/HND in Civil Engineering or equivalent non‑degree qualification
