Make a Difference Every Day

WCB NE is looking for experienced Support Workers to join our dedicated team, supporting children and young people in crisis. This is a highly rewarding role where you will support young people facing trauma, emotional distress, and behavioural challenges — helping them feel safe, supported, and empowered to move forward.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on support to children and young people in crisis
  • Ensure the safety and wellbeing of those in your care
  • Respond calmly and effectively to challenging behaviours
  • Build positive, trusting relationships
  • Support daily routines, education, and life skills
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to care planning
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and external professionals
  • Assist with daily tasks including cooking and cleaning

Requirements

  • Minimum 12 months’ experience supporting children or young people with challenging behaviours
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection
  • Calm, resilient, and able to work under pressure
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • Flexible availability (including sleep-ins and waking nights)
  • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain)
  • Ability to provide 5 years’ employment references
  • Willing to complete pre-employment training
  • Willing to do some weekends

Desirable:

  • Full UK driving licence
