What we are looking for:

We’re continuing to grow and evolve as a firm, and we’re looking for an Assistant Manager who will bring enthusiasm, initiative, and a collaborative mindset to help us deliver for our clients. You must hold appropriate professional qualifications (or be qualified by experience). You will have the skills to take the lead in assignments and you must be confident in liaising with our clients across the charity sector. You will play a support role to the director and partner(s).

About the team:

As an Assistant Manager you will gain first-hand experience in dealing with a range of different charities from smaller organisations preparing receipts and payments accounts to larger charities requiring accruals accounts. This is a brand-new role and will give the Assistant Manager the opportunity to help shape the future of a growing team. The role involves managing the client portfolio from planning stage through to completion and providing clients with a professional service throughout the process. You will work directly with clients across the country, developing strong professional relationships and gaining valuable insights into how different organisations operate. As part of our collaborative and growing team, you will be supported by senior colleagues who are committed to developing talent, promoting professional advancement, and delivering excellent client service. With a department made up of 2 Partners, 3 Directors, and a diverse team of managers, qualified staff, and 24 CA trainees, you will benefit from the opportunity to learn from experienced professionals. Key responsibilities:

  • Management of charity client portfolio, liaising directly with all clients and reporting to director
  • Reviewing independent examination assignments and providing technical guidance to clients as necessary
  • Scheduling and reviewing the planning of assignments
  • Supervising and reviewing work of team members whilst performing more technical fieldwork tasks
  • Liaising with clients and reporting to director/partner (as required)
  • Taking ownership of assignments from planning through to completion
  • Attending client meetings, on occasion
  • Managing fees and WIP

Staff:

  • Assisting with coaching/training of team members
  • Actively contributing to the annual appraisal process

Department:

  • Aiding development of department, ie Production of tender documents
  • Other relevant business development tasks
  • Share in management of the department administration
  • Taking on occasional ad hoc assignments
  • Any other appropriate tasks, as directed

Essential skills & experience:

  • Significant accounts experience: must have an excellent understanding and proven experience in this area and be comfortable with the preparation of financial statements and appropriate disclosures
  • Awareness of accounting standards and technically up to date
  • Confident in dealing with clients
  • Ability to guide and coach junior team members
  • Charity sector accounts preparation and experience
  • Knowledge of accounting systems such as Xero, Sage & QuickBooks
  • Exposure to business development activities
  • Proven organisational skills and ability to take ownership of tasks
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Positive and confident approach to work
  • Client focussed
  • Quality approach to work (first time, on time, every time)
  • Can work effectively in a team environment or on own initiative
