We are looking for an Audit Senior to join our External Audit team, based in our Glasgow office. Our External Audit team supports organisations across a broad range of sectors, including corporate, charity, education, housing associations, and SMEs/owner-managed businesses. Our work goes beyond statutory compliance, focusing on delivering value, insight, and a high standard of client service.
As an Audit Senior, you will take responsibility for leading audits from planning through to completion, working with clients of varying size and complexity. You will act as a key point of contact for clients, building trusted relationships and ensuring work is delivered efficiently and to a high standard. You will also play an important role in supervising and supporting junior team members, providing on-the-job guidance, reviewing work, and contributing to a positive and collaborative team environment. Working closely with managers, directors, and partners, you will help ensure audit quality, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement across the team.
Key Responsibilities- Planning and delivering audit assignments from planning through to completion.
- Acting as the senior fieldwork team member on audit engagements, undertaking complex and technical audit work.
- Supervising and reviewing the work of junior team members, ensuring quality, consistency, and adherence to deadlines.
- Providing on-the-job training and mentoring to students and junior staff, supporting their professional development and exam progression.
- Preparation of statutory accounts from trial balance, including audit adjustments and ensuring appropriate financial statement disclosures.
- Drafting management letters with clear recommendations for improvements to systems, controls, and governance.
- Acting as a key point of contact for clients, building and maintaining strong professional relationships.
- Attending and contributing to client meetings, including Audit Committees and Board meetings where required.
- Taking ownership of audit quality, ensuring compliance with auditing standards, regulatory requirements, and firm methodologies.
- Supporting managers and partners with proposals, sales, and business development activity where appropriate.
- Supporting the onboarding and development of graduate trainees.
- Some travel (overnight) may be expected but limited.
- Any other appropriate tasks, as directed.
- CA or ACCA qualified, having completed all professional examinations and required practical experience.
- Typically 4–6 years’ audit experience, including at least 1-year post-qualification experience, with exposure to medium to large audit engagements and experience gained within a small to medium-sized practice.
- Proven experience supervising and reviewing the work of junior team members.
- Strong technical knowledge of UK auditing and accounting standards, with a commitment to remaining technically up to date including ISAs and relevant FRSs.
- Confident and professional communicator, able to build trusted relationships with clients and colleagues.
- Well organised, with the ability to manage multiple assignments and competing deadlines effectively.
- Comfortable working independently while contributing positively to a wider team environment.
