WBD Group is an independent engineering consultancy delivering Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Temporary Works and Façade Engineering services across some of the UK's most complex and high-profile developments. Our projects span commercial offices, residential, life sciences, data centres, mixed-use developments, healthcare, education and major infrastructure, working alongside leading developers, architects, contractors and asset owners.
As we continue to grow, we are looking for an ambitious Business Development & Client Support Coordinator to help drive new opportunities, strengthen our sales processes and support our continued expansion into both the private and public sectors.
Role Purpose
This role is responsible for supporting WBD's business development activities by generating opportunities, maintaining sales pipelines, coordinating bids and proposals, and ensuring prospective projects are consistently progressed. Working closely with the Managing Director and Head of Client Relations & Growth, you will help identify and convert new business opportunities while allowing senior staff to focus on strategic client relationships and high-level business development. This is not a traditional sales role. We are looking for someone who understands, or is genuinely interested in, the built environment and can confidently engage with developers, contractors, architects and consultants regarding construction projects and engineering services.
Key Responsibilities
- Business Development
- Research prospective clients, developments and project opportunities.
- Identify new business opportunities across the UK construction sector.
- Generate leads through proactive research and outbound activity.
- Conduct introductory calls and business development outreach.
- Arrange meetings for senior management.
- Follow up introductions, meetings and enquiries.
- Maintain regular contact with prospective clients.
- Help convert opportunities into secured projects.
- Build relationships with junior and mid-level client contacts.
- Sales Administration
- Maintain and update the CRM system.
- Manage the sales pipeline.
- Ensure opportunities are progressed through each stage.
- Prepare pipeline reports and business development updates.
- Coordinate proposal submissions.
- Assist with fee proposals and capability documents.
- Maintain client and project databases.
- Coordinate follow-up actions arising from meetings.
- Public Sector & Bid Coordination
- Monitor public sector procurement portals.
- Identify relevant frameworks and tender opportunities.
- Track Dynamic Purchasing Systems (DPS) and framework opportunities.
- Coordinate tender submissions.
- Support bid writing and document preparation.
- Prepare capability statements and supporting documentation.
- Coordinate information from technical teams.
- Maintain a register of public sector opportunities.
- Ensure tender deadlines are achieved.
- Market Intelligence
- Monitor planning applications and major developments.
- Research developers, contractors and consultants.
- Track industry activity and market trends.
- Identify future opportunities before they reach procurement.
- Maintain intelligence on key target clients.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Previous experience in Business Development, Sales Support, Sales Administration or Client Relationship Management.
- Excellent organisational skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication.
- Confident speaking with prospective clients.
- Comfortable conducting outbound calls.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Experience using CRM systems.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills.
Desirable Experience
- Experience within one or more of the following sectors: Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Architecture, Construction Consultancy, Property Development, Main Contracting, Building Surveying, Construction Recruitment.
- Knowledge or understanding of: Construction project lifecycles, RIBA Stages, Design team structures, Engineering consultancy services, Procurement routes.
- Highly desirable experience includes: Public sector procurement, Bid writing, Bid coordination, Framework applications, Dynamic Purchasing Systems (DPS), Contracts Finder, Find a Tender, Delta eSourcing, Proactis, Jaggaer, In-Tend, Other UK procurement portals.
