Position Overview: Responsible for daily operations of a busy hire depot in Heanor. The role leads the workshop team, ensures equipment readiness, maintains compliance with safety and environmental regulations, and meets strict service level agreements for major utility contracts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee day‑to‑day running of the workshop and yard, maintaining high standards of housekeeping, health, safety, and environmental compliance.
- Manage scheduled maintenance of all hire assets (generators, tanks, cables, test equipment).
- Maintain the Protean system in real time, tracking equipment locations and maintenance records.
- Allocate daily workloads for workshop engineers to maximise efficiency and productivity.
- Complete and oversee pre‑delivery inspections before equipment is released to customers.
- Control and monitor breakdowns, working time and coordinate with the Hire Service Delivery Manager.
- Authorize and manage overtime in line with operational needs.
- Collaborate with Sales Managers to ensure all orders can be fulfilled and raise risks when necessary.
- Allocate assets for hire, ensuring readiness and availability.
- Capture and track damage, loss, and equipment returns.
- Conduct competency checks and performance management for workshop staff.
- Support team development, including technical and soft‑skills training.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across workshop processes.
- Coordinate with stores to ensure parts and materials availability.
- Conduct quality control checks and raise non‑conformance reports when required.
- Promote a strong safety‑first culture.
- Ensure repairs are completed within 48 hours, escalating when necessary.
- Provide technical support and expertise to resolve issues quickly.
- Maintain and uphold Rehlko standards within the area of responsibility.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in a workshop, plant hire, generator, or engineering environment.
- Previous management or supervisory experience.
- Strong understanding of health & safety and workshop compliance.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced, SLA‑driven environment.
- Excellent organisation, planning, and problem‑solving skills.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management ability.
- Hands‑on, proactive approach with a focus on continuous improvement.
